On October 23rd, The Barbuda Relief Network commenced their annual food drive in support of the island of Barbuda. And many came in full support at the venue in Mount Vernon, New York. Caribbean food with the Barbudan twist was what was sold. Fried dumplings, salt fish(cod fish), ducana, seasoned rice, red snapper, fried chicken, peas and rice, mixed vegetables, salt fish cakes and so much more were on the menu. Barbuda is the sister island of Antigua. Barbuda was hit by hurricane Ida. The eye of the hurricane covered the entire island. Many of the people on the island had to go to Antigua for relief. Now many are back and still trying to rebuild. The Barbuda Relief network has been one of the non profits that have helped with the rebuilding. Due to covid, they decided to continue to sell food. However, due to safety measures the food needed to be ordered in advance and picked up outside of the venue. Social distancing is a must but we will still assist. Many also donated money, toiletries, canned goods and other necessities to be placed in barrels and shipped to the island.
